AFTER THAT, HE BEGAN TO DO A LOT OF READING, MOSTLY OF WORLD HISTORY. THE MOTIVES HE FOUND FOR THE TRAGEDIES HE’D SEEN WERE APPARENTLY NOT AS GOOD AS HE’D HOPED THEY’D BE, SO HE ALSO READ PHILOSOPHY. I’M NOT SURE THAT IT HELPED VERY MUCH.
Emily: Hey, how’s it going?
Dee: Ugh. My god, Emily! I can’t believe how complacent I’ve been!
Emily: Dee. Even if you had known all of this, what difference would it make? What could you do?
Dee: I – I don’t know...
Emily: You’d have to reveal yourself.
Dee: Yes... but...
Emily: Dee. You can’t do anything. If humanity is going to mess with itself, whatever, that’s our problem, not yours. Hopefully we’ll write down what happened and learn from it. Eventually we’ll figure it out. Ok? Anyway stop bingeing on history. I’ll find you a good book to read.
