Emily: What did you do to Mummy?
Death: Not really anything. It was her time to go.
Emily: NO!! Bring her back!
Death: I can't.
Emily: Why not?!?
Death: Because... her body doesn't work. You can only live if you're healthy enough. I can't change that. Also don't stand on the bed.
Emily: I WANT MY MUMMY BACK! BRING HER BACK!!!
Death: No. Throwing a tantrum won't get you anything, either. Ever. Your mum's gone, OK?
Emily: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
(Runs towards him on the bed)
Death:
Hey, what the hell, kid? Calm down!
(Emily hugs onto him)
Death: Oh. Um. There, there. Shhh...
Emily: -sob-
Death: You know, dying's not a bad thing. Everyone does it, sooner or later. But you can't change when it happens, that's the thing. It's like moving house. Sort of. If your house is falling down, you can't live there. So you move house, and even though you leave all your neighbours and friends behind, and they might miss you, you can’t help it. Someday they’ll have to move, too. That’s what happened to your mum; she couldn’t live in her body anymore. But she’s ok, and someday you’ll see her again. Make sense?
Emily: -sniff- I think so. Where’s she gone?
Death: Sorry. Trade secret. I can’t tell you.
