(Emily at work, bringing a meal to Gus.)
Emily:
Heya, Gus! We got beef and barley soup today!
Gus: Ah! Thank you Emma. Now, I can feed myself, you know. I’m not decrepit.
Emily: Haha, I know. Anything good in the paper?
Gus: Just the usual. Bunch of people dying before their time… Not me.
Emily:
Gus: I don’t suppose - has my son called?
Emily: Uh… no, not yet.
Gus: … I know it’s silly, to be afraid.
Emily: No, it isn’t silly. But you know what, Gus? You don’t have to be afraid. It sucks about your family, but you won’t be alone. I promise I will be there. Ok? I promise. No matter when it happens. You will not die alone, Gus.
Gus: … That’s sweet of you to say. But we can only hope…
Emily: No. I can guarantee it.
