Emily: So?
Dee: So... I've never met anyone who wasn't going to die.
Emily: Is that a problem?
Dee: Well it's a pretty major turn-off.
Emily: Oh. How come?
Dee: I just think... if I were ever going to fall in love, it would have to be with someone more like me. It's like... I don't know. Like a sexual orientation. Or... more basic than that. You'd never fall in love with someone that wasn't human, would you?
Emily: I might. If they were close enough. That's the whole thing with those supernatural romances, isn't it?
Dee: I don't think I'm 'close enough'. To anything.
Emily: I think you are.
Dee: Well I'm not.
Emily: You probably only think that because you spend so much time on your own. You just haven't met the right person yet! I'm sure if you got to know more people-
Dee: No, no. I could never love a mortal. Even apart from being wholly different beings from me, they're all going to die. And I'm going to have to do it. It's bad enough with you.
Emily: ... oh. Wait, why-?
