I NEVER DID CONFESS WHAT I'D MEANT TO.
(Emily falls down through the sky, Dee keeping pace beside her.)
Dee: Why do you ask all this, anyway?
Emily: I don't know.
(Dee now holding Emily in his arms to land safely on the ground.)
Dee: It wasn't because of that Death and the Maiden stuff, was it? Because I swear, I never -
Emily: I know, I know. But it might have been to do with that, a little.
AFTERWARDS, I CONTEMPLATED THAT CONVERSATION A FAIR BIT, TRYING TO DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT I COULD STILL WOO HIM. HIS LACK OF INTEREST WAS OBVIOUS; AND PERMANENT ALSO, I CONCLUDED.
(Panels showing Emily brushing her hair, looking into a mirror.)
BUT I REALISED SOMETHING. I WASN'T REALLY DISAPPOINTED. HE WOULD NEVER LOVE ME - NOT IN THAT WAY. BUT IT WAS OK, BECAUSE I DIDN'T LOVE HIM. THIS WAS ONLY A CRUSH, AND I WAS ABOUT TO GET OVER IT.
(A panel showing Dee and Emily lying outside under a blanket, surrounded by tufts of grass; Dee is pointing up at the sky and saying something, while Emily smiles at him.)
ALL I WANTED WAS TO BE HIS FRIEND.
